Three Ways You Can Help Your Student or Recent Grad Career-wise this Thanksgiving
Many students are returning from college this week for a well-earned break. Or perhaps your young adult has already graduated and is in the midst of a job search?
Here are a couple of ways you can constructively help your child find meaningful, self-sustaining work.
1. Job seekers love online applications because they are easy and largely insulate them from the pain of rejection. However, most jobs are never advertised. Remind them that the hidden job market is penetrated through connections and networking.
2. This time of year is accompanied by many parties and get togethers. Though young adults may be reluctant to go to gatherings to which your family is invited, these are often perfect opportunities for them to socialize with family friends engaged in all sorts of pursuits. Many careers are launched by chance encounters.
3. Encourage your student to use holiday downtime to broaden their network. If your child has built or can build a suitable LinkedIn profile, encourage them to extend invitations to people they know. Your family connections are a perfect place to start.
